Do you know your right as a Jamaican Citizen?

Are you a Jamaican citizen without any knowledge of your rights? Do you feel like it is important to know your rights?
If your answer is yes then the information below will be for you. If you are a citizen of Jamaica by birth, decent, marriage or registration then you are entitled to the following rights mentioned below.

As citizens of Jamaica according to the Jamaican Constitution Chapter 3 section 13 (1) have the right which is the state has an obligation to promote universal respect. As a citizen you have:

  1. LIFE, LIBERTY AND SECURITY: except in the execution of the sentence of a court in respect of a criminal offense of which the person has been convicted.
  2. POLITICAL FREEDOM: of thought, conscience, belief and observance of political doctrines.
  3. FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION
  4. FREEDOM OF THOUGHT: To seek, receive, distribute or disseminate information, opinions and ideas through any media.
  5. PEACEFUL ASSEMBLY AND ASSOCIATION
  6. FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT: for all Jamaican citizens and lawful visitors to enter Jamaica, move around freely throughout Jamaica, leave Jamaica and reside in any part of Jamaica.
  7. EQUALITY BEFORE THE LAW
  8. EQUAL AND HUMANE TREATMENT BY ANY PUBLIC AUTHORITY: in the exercise of any function.
  9. FREEDOM FROM DISCRIMINATION: on the grounds of gender, race, place of origin, class, colour, religion, political opinions.
  10. SECURITY, PROTECTION and PRIVACY: Protection from person and property search, respect for protection of private and family life, privacy of the home and protection of other property and of communication.
  11. CHILD PROTECTION
  12. EDUCATION: Every Jamaican child has the right to education at the pre-primary and primary levels.
  13. HEALTHY, SAFE and PRODUCTIVE ENVIRONMENT: free from the threat of injury or damage from environmental abuse and degradation of the ecological heritage.
  14. FREEDOM TO VOTE FREELY in FAIR ELECTIONS: Every citizen who is registered to vote, can do so in free and fair elections.
  15. A JAMAICAN PASSPORT: is guaranteed to all nationals, which is not to be taken away except by due process of the law.
  16. PROTECTION FROM TORTURE OR INHUMANE PUNISHMENT OR TREATMENT
  17. FREEDOM: of the person.
  18. PROTECTION OF PROPERTY RIGHTS
  19. DUE PROCESS
